Maintaining a healthy weight during pregnancy is hard enough with the constant cheese, chocolate and ice cream cravings. Add in a hectic schedule and it’s amazing our rear ends don’t pop as far as our bellies do! One way to make it through, keep your appetite at bay by eating smaller meals throughout the day and start with a protein packed breakfast that’s a cinch to make before running out the door.
This has been our morning ritual for over a year now and it never seems to get old. In fact, after a month or so, it becomes an addiction – one you get out of bed craving each morning.
Blueberry Banana Shake
- 8 oz organic skim milk
- 1/2 a medium banana
- 1/2 cup of frozen blueberries
- 1 scoop of vanilla whey protein
We bought a personal size blender a while back and it’s been a great investment. Throw all the ingredients in together and blend. It’s quick to make and easy to clean up. I was squeemish when it came to adding protein powder at first. Every brand I had tried left me with a bitter beer face at the finish. Very unpleasant. It wasn’t until my husband introduced me to WheyFit by Fitness Labs that I actually came to like it. Their creamy vanilla (blue label) blends smooth and doesn’t have that ‘good for you’ health food aftertaste. You can find it at www.nutritionexpress.com.
Chobani Yogurt with Honey
- 1 chobani nonfat plain yogurt
- 1 tablespoon of honey
An even greater addiction, this will not only pack the protein but also keep you regular. Less pregnancy bloating, yay! Now…I’ve tried a shelf full of yogurt varieties. To me, Chobani is the perfect inbetween…not watery or sour like the popular yogurts that come plumped up on cornstarch, and not too thick like those bordering on cream cheese. I’ve been known to clear out the shelf at our local Publix – it’s that good. If you prefer the flavored variety, strawberry or pineapple never disappoint.
